The "Mice" Project: mice for the undergraduate faculty
computer lab (ISIS)
The "Mice" project involves the purchase of 80 computer mice and mouse
pads for use by students in the ISIS computer lab (1st and 2nd Year
computer lab). CUESEF has made no commitment to replace these mice when
they break, so once their gone, their gone!!
This project was not officially proposed by anyone external to CUESEF,
but was one of the items frequently requested (by average students)
during the (public and private) discussions about creating CUESEF, prior
to the existence of CUESEF. This actually is not a great project for
CUESEF because the expected life of a (computer) mouse is not that long
in an open lab (a year would be optimistic), but it is felt to be an
improvement to the "quality of life" within Carleton Engineering,
especially to those students who must CadKey in the ISIS lab. This
project also serves as an experiment to see how long the mice last
so that future CUESEF boards can decide how and when this lab should be
provided with mice.
Here are some stats:
- Amount spent: $1150
- Number of students Affected: ~1400 (all undergrad students), easily
600 students per year.
- Engineering disciplines affected: All
- "Life" of contribution: 8 months (estimated)
- Date operational: April 1996
Installation should be complete in early April. The mice may be
removed from the lab for the summer so that they don't get worn out by
people other than undergraduate engineering students.
